She decided to go public with her story after Bachelorette Katie Thurston shared her cancer diagnosis with her followers. What did Ashley share? Keep reading to get all the details.
Ashley Iaconetti Shares Story Of Breast Biopsy
Bachelor in Paradise favorite Ashley Iaconetti is sharing her own story about breast health and what happened to her personally. Seeing Katie Thurston have the courage to come forward and talk about her breast cancer diagnosis inspired Ashley to share her own story.
Both of these women are hoping their stories will bring awareness to breast health and encourage other ladies to be proactive.
As for Ashley, she revealed on her Almost Famous podcast that she has had two breast biopsies. She said, “This is, like, so TMI but I mentioned just about the feel of my boobs are different now after having kids than it was prior. They used to be a lot denser. But yes, that is common.”
Ashley went on to share what she first felt. “I’ve always had pretty dense breasts. There was one spot where it was particularly, it was a lump OK. I got a mammogram at 22 and an ultrasound and they biopsied it.”
She is fine and the biopsies were benign. Ashley noted that she thinks she would notice if something were different with her breasts. However, she does need to be more intentional about doing checks.
Ashley hopes all young people will follow her advice and stay proactive in doing monthly self-breast checks.
Ben Higgins chimed in and said, “We’re thinking about Katie. Goodness gracious, her life has taken such a turn.”
Katie Thurston’s Diagnosis
Bachelorette Katie Thurston received devasting news last month that she has breast cancer. At the young age of 34 with no history of breast cancer in her family, she was shocked.
She has not found out exactly what stage she is but she revealed they believe it to be stage 3. Currently, Katie and her fiance Jeff Arcuri are living in New York and she is beginning her journey to fight the terrible disease.
She is undergoing fertility treatments so she and Jeff can have embryos frozen before she begins chemotherapy in a few weeks. After chemo, Katie will have surgery to remove her breast. It’s unclear if she will be doing a single or double mastectomy.
After sharing with fans, Katie is feeling ready to fight this. She said it’s mentally overwhelming but in an odd way she thinks cancer picked the right person. She won’t let it win and now she can use her platform to spread awareness in other young ladies.
More young people are being diagnosed with breast cancer than ever before. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women just after skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of death with lung cancer being the first.
