Bachelorette Katie Thurston is giving fans a new update on her treatment plan for her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. Sadly, Katie has been going through a lot regarding exactly what form of cancer she has. Two different facilities have had different results regarding her type of cancer. Now, after the initial results were retested, Katie has her answer and can finally move forward with treatment. What did she find out? Keep reading to find out more.
Bachelorette Katie Thurston Finally Has Official Treatment Plan
Bachelorette Katie Thurston has been in limbo since learning she has breast cancer. Not long after her initial diagnosis, she discovered that it had spread to her liver. The original plan was to begin chemotherapy last Friday.
However, new test results contradicted what the first set of tests at a different facility had shown. Originally, Katie was told she had HER2+ breast cancer. This would mean she needs chemotherapy. However, another set of tests revealed she is HER2- which would mean to avoid chemo if possible.
The original facility was contacted to retest the sample they had and verify if it was really HER2+. Today, Katie got the results back and she is officially HER2 negative. This means she will not be undergoing chemotherapy as originally planned. She will now undergo a specific treatment plan for her particular cancer.
She shared her new plan of action on her Boobie Broadcast group on Instagram. Katie will not have chemotherapy right now. It could be a possibility in the future but not at this moment. For now, Katie will begin taking Letrozole + Kisqali + Zoladex. This will be her first line of treatment. The treatment plan was established due to her having HER2 negative, Luminal B, hormone-positive breast cancer.
Katie then went on to explain what each medication will do to help fight the cancer. The Letrozole will block estrogen. The Kisqali will stop cancer cells from growing. Finally, the Zoladex will shut down her ovaries.
Why would she need chemo in the future? Katie revealed that the doctors will closely monitor how her body responds to the treatment plan. If the cancer starts growing again or the treatment stops working then they will consider the next steps.
Katie Has Tons Of Support
Bachelorette Katie Thurston can finally start treatment after a few big setbacks. The good news is she has tons of support. She has her new husband Jeff Arcuri to be with her all the time. She also has family, friends and Bachelor Nation who continue to stand by her and cheer her on.
Katie has previously said that cancer picked the wrong person to mess with and she will beat it. She posted a quote earlier today about how in a year from now she will be crying tears of joy because of how beautiful life got.
