BIP fan favorite Serena Pitt is a native to our neighbors to the north. Born and raised in Canada, she’s been trying to get her green card for a while. After a setback, she shared a new update on the fate of her application. Keep reading for all the details.
Serena Pitt, Joe Amabile Face Setback In Green Card Attempt
Getting a green card to become a permanent resident of the United States is a long and tedious process. Bachelor In Paradise star Serena Pitt got a first-hand experience with that. She revealed on Instagram earlier this month that she’s been trying to get her green card for over two years.
She didn’t say why she’s chosen to get a green card now. However, her husband is an American and they live in New York City. At least for now. They’re considering moving before starting a family.

Serena Pitt met Joe Amabile on Season 7 of Bachelor In Paradise. They immediately hit it off and only had eyes for each other while on the beach. He proposed during the season finale in 2021.
The couple had a courthouse wedding in NYC in October 2022. They hosted a larger wedding celebration in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2023. Clearly Serena Pitt plans to build a life in the United States, which may have been what prompted her quest for a green card.
BIP Star Shares Fate Of Green Card Battle
But it wasn’t as easy as she thought. She suffered a huge setback when she went to Montreal for the green card interview last week. Joe Amabile posted on social media that his wife was missing a necessary document for the application.
Serena Pitt was disheartened by the setback but planned to return to Montreal for another interview this week with the correct documents. She took the second trip alone. How did it go?
She revealed on Instagram that the second interview was a success. Her green card application was accepted.
“After 2.5 years and many bumps along the way, this morning my US green card application was approved at my Interview in Montreal,” she captioned the celebratory post.

Serena Pitt added, “Anyone who has been through this process knows how draining and defeating it can be at times but we finallyyyy made it!”
Is Her Husband, Joe Amabile, Automatically A Canadian Citizen?
Her social media followers flooded the comments with congratulations. While Serena Pitt attended the interview alone, she Facetimed her husband to tell him the good news.
One fan wondered in the comments about Joe Amabile’s status in Canada. “Is Joe automatically a Canadian citizen by marrying you? You should definitely make sure he can get his citizenship as well just in case you need to leave,” they asked.
Serena Pitt didn’t respond to the comment but another social media user did. They said that Canadian citizenship doesn’t pass between spouses. They explained, “No, you have to live where you’re applying to have status. With a green card she needs to live in the US for 6 months of the year. If they move to Canada, Joe needs permanent residency in Canada and that’ll have its own requirements, including moving there.”
While the BIP couple are thinking about moving, it’s unlikely that they are considering moving to Canada.
Congratulations to Serena Pitt on become a green card holder!
